The Cost of Inadequate Cooling

Why Standard Air Conditioning Fails IT Infrastructure

Server rooms and data centres generate dry, continuous heat. Using standard comfort ACs in these environments leads to equipment failure, shortened battery lifespans, and severe downtime.

Thermal Hot Spots

Comfort ACs lack the airflow volume required to push cool air evenly through densely packed server racks, creating damaging hot spots.

Uncontrolled Humidity

Too dry causes static discharge (ESD) damaging boards. Too humid causes condensation. Precision cooling manages exact humidity levels.

24/7/365 Wear and Tear

Standard ACs run a few hours a day. IT loads are constant. Precision units are engineered with heavy-duty components for non-stop operation.

UPS Battery Degradation

For every 8°C rise above 25°C, a VRLA UPS battery's lifespan is cut in half. Precise temperature control is mandatory for power backups.

Low Sensible Heat Ratio

Comfort ACs waste energy removing moisture. Servers produce dry heat (sensible heat). Precision ACs have high sensible heat ratios, maximizing efficiency.

Lack of Redundancy

Mission-critical spaces require N+1 configurations. Precision systems network together to automatically failover if a unit drops offline.

Cooling and UPS: An Inseparable Ecosystem

A UPS system protects your servers from power failure, but what protects your UPS? Batteries are highly sensitive to heat. Failing to provide proper precision cooling directly compromises your backup power strategy.

Battery Lifespan

VRLA batteries are designed for 25°C. High temperatures accelerate grid corrosion, drastically reducing battery life.

UPS Self-Protection

Enterprise UPS systems will automatically transfer to bypass or shut down if internal temperatures exceed safe limits.

Cooling on Backup

During outages, your UPS must support the servers AND cooling units. If cooling stops, thermal limits are reached in minutes.

Unified Monitoring

Integrate environmental monitoring with UPS management to trigger automated, graceful shutdowns if cooling fails.

Engineered for Reliability

Key capabilities that separate enterprise precision cooling from standard commercial air conditioning systems.

±1°C Temp Stability

Microprocessor controls maintain exact temperatures, eliminating damaging thermal cycling.

Humidity Control

Integrated humidifiers and dehumidification cycles ensure moisture levels meet ASHRAE guidelines.

High Airflow Volume

Moves significantly more air to penetrate dense server racks and overcome internal resistance.

EC Fans & Efficiency

Electronically Commutated (EC) fans and variable speed compressors reduce power consumption.

Smart Sequencing

Multiple units network together to rotate runtime evenly and engage standby units if one fails.

SNMP Monitoring

Connects directly to Building Management Systems (BMS) or DCIM tools for remote oversight.

Deep Filtration

MERV-rated filters trap microscopic dust before they enter server intakes and cause shorts.

Auto-Restart

Following a power loss and transfer to generator/UPS, units automatically restart.

Precision Cooling FAQ

Why can't I just use split ACs in my server room?
Standard split ACs (comfort cooling) are designed for people, not IT equipment. They remove too much moisture (potentially causing static electricity), lack the fan power to push air through dense server racks, and are not built with components intended to run 24/7/365. This leads to frequent breakdowns, hot spots, and shortened IT equipment lifespan.
What is N+1 Redundancy in cooling?
N+1 means you have the number of units required to cool the room (N), plus one extra backup unit (+1). The units are networked together. If one unit fails or is taken offline for maintenance, the standby unit automatically turns on, ensuring the data centre temperature remains stable without human intervention.
Do you provide cooling specifically for UPS battery rooms?
Yes. UPS batteries (specifically VRLA) are highly sensitive to temperature. The standard operating temperature is 25°C. For every 8°C rise above this, battery lifespan is halved. We design specialized small-footprint precision cooling to maintain exact temperatures in dedicated electrical and UPS rooms.
What brands do you supply?
We primarily partner with global leaders in critical infrastructure, heavily featuring Vertiv (formerly Emerson Network Power / Liebert) as a Platinum Authorised Partner, as well as integrating solutions compatible with Schneider Electric and Stulz environments, ensuring enterprise-grade reliability and OEM support.
Can the cooling system alert me if a temperature threshold is breached?
Yes. Precision cooling units come with advanced network management cards. They can be integrated into your central BMS (Building Management System) or DCIM, sending immediate email, SMS, or SNMP trap alerts to IT personnel if temperatures rise, humidity fluctuates, or a mechanical fault is detected.
